Stop Spreading Yourself Thin: The Smart Entrepreneur's Guide to Consistent Online Presence

Visibility is non-negotiable for business success, but you don't need to be everywhere online to be seen by potential clients. Smart entrepreneurs choose platforms strategically, focusing on consistent quality content rather than spreading themselves too thin across multiple channels.

• The biggest mistake entrepreneurs make is trying to be everywhere at once, leading to burnout and inconsistency
• Inconsistent visibility is essentially the same as invisibility
• Choose one primary platform based on where your audience hangs out and where you enjoy showing up
• Match platforms to your natural strengths - video lovers may thrive on YouTube/TikTok, writers on blogs/LinkedIn
• Repurpose content across platforms instead of creating new content for each one
• One piece of anchor content (like a video or podcast) can be transformed into multiple pieces for other platforms
• Consistency is more important than frequency - better to post less often but reliably
• Every post should have a purpose that aligns with your business goals
• Build an email list as your owned visibility channel that's not dependent on algorithms

Join my workshop "Plan Your Quarter with Confidence" on September 20th where we can create your visibility plan together.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to Plan Like a Boss. Today we're talking about something I know. So many entrepreneurs struggle with how to stay visible online without burning out. Because, let's be real, visibility is non-negotiable. If people don't see you, they can't buy from you. But if being visible is draining every ounce of your energy, then something is wrong. But here's the good news you don't need to be everywhere, you just need a plan. So if you've been feeling stuck on the content hamster wheel, overwhelmed by all the platforms or guilty for not posting enough, this episode is going to feel like a deep breath of relief. So relax your shoulders, unstick your tongue from the roof of your mouth and let's get into it.

Speaker 1:

Let's start with the biggest mistake I see solopreneurs make, and that is trying to be everywhere at once. You're on Instagram, tiktok, youtube, linkedin, facebook groups, pinterest, oh, and don't forget email, podcasts, live streams. It's exhausting. I know because I've been there. When I first started my business, I felt like I had to post daily on Instagram, keep up with all the Facebook groups, experiment with TikTok and stay active on LinkedIn. And guess what? I was exhausted. I was posting inconsistently and, honestly, none of it was working the way I wanted it to. When you spread yourself too thin, you end up posting surface-level content everywhere instead of meaningful content somewhere. And here's the honest truth Inconsistent visibility is the same as invisibility. You have to be consistent if you want people to find you. Now I know what you're thinking. I just don't have the time to post everywhere, and that's exactly why your first step to showing up consistently isn't posting everywhere, it's choosing the right platform to focus on. So this is what I want you to do. I want you to ask yourself where is my audience already hanging out? Are they on Instagram? Are they on TikTok? Are they more of a Facebook group? Where are they out there searching for their answers? Because that is where you want to be Now. The other question, and equally important, is where do you enjoy showing up? Because if it's a platform that you don't love, you are not going to show up consistently. Now, this is where I want you to find the balance Somewhere between where you enjoy being and where your audience already is, and ideally, those two will align. Now, if your ideal clients are scrolling Instagram stories at night, that's where you need to be in their stories showing up in the evening. If they're watching tutorials on YouTube no-transcript, go out there and get your channel up and running. If they're professionals networking on LinkedIn, build your presence there. Go where your audience is.

Speaker 1:

Don't just choose a platform, because some guru said this is the one that converts. Choose the one that matches your audience's habits and your natural strengths. I know there are tons of coaches out there teaching you what worked for them, but I've got news for you you are not them. You are your own person and have your own strengths. That's why I always tailor my coaching to each individual client, because everyone is different. If you love video and you love teaching, then YouTube and TikTok may be best for you. If you love writing, then maybe you're more into blogging or posting on LinkedIn, and if you're a connector, instagram stories or Facebook groups could be perfect for you. The platform is not as important as knowing where your audience is and what aligns with your own strengths. Now, I know we don't have enough time to be everywhere, even if that's what we want to do, so here is my super simple secret sauce Once you've chosen your main platform, you don't have to reinvent the wheel for every other platform.

Speaker 1:

Instead, repurpose your content. So some examples you record a 10-minute YouTube video. That video can become three TikToks, two Instagram reels and a carousel post and an email to your list. Why not? You write a blog post, turn it into a podcast episode and then share a key point in a LinkedIn post. Finally, you record a podcast like this one. You can clip a soundbite for Instagram, you can make a carousel of the main points and you can even pull out a quote and post it on threads. A quote and post it on threads One piece of anchor content can fill all of your visibility needs. Now, best of all, you can use an AI tool like TagiP to help you out. Simply plug in your blog post or video script and have AI pull out the content ideas, then edit them as you see. Fit. Out the content ideas, then edit them as you see fit.

Speaker 1:

If TikTok is your platform of choice, create content for TikTok and then use a scheduler like Metricool to post that content not only to TikTok, but also Instagram, facebook and YouTube. Now, each of these platforms has a different audience, so there's no need to worry about duplicate content, because it's going to be seen by different people. This is how you show up everywhere without actually being everywhere. Now here's another secret it is better to post less but consistently, than to post a lot and disappear. Less is more. So let's say you commit to two Instagram posts a week and one YouTube video every two weeks, along with a weekly email to your list. That might not sound like much, but if you do it consistently for a year, you will be miles ahead of someone who posted daily for a month and then ghosted their audience. Because consistency builds trust, people begin to expect you, the algorithms start to reward you and, most importantly, you stop burning yourself out. So ask yourself what is the posting schedule that I can realistically commit to for the next three months? Start there. Even if that's only one post per week, you can always add more later.

Speaker 1:

Now that we've got our posting schedule down, let's talk about the quality of your content. It is so tempting to just post to check a box hey, I haven't posted today, let me throw something up. But random posts lead to random results. Instead, every piece of content should tie back to your business goals and your message. So ask yourself when you're getting ready to post something does this post move my audience closer to knowing, liking and trusting me? Does it educate, inspire or connect with my audience, and does it align with what I want them to do next, whether that's joining my email list, buying an offer or simply engaging with my content.

Speaker 1:

Visibility is not about noise. It's about alignment. So let me give you a sneak peek at my own system. My primary platforms are YouTube and this podcast. That's where I create my deep, evergreen content. From there, I repurpose it into Instagram posts, reels, carousels and stories. I also send highlights to my email list, so I'm not just relying on social media algorithms to reach people. Visibility cannot solely be put in the hands of social media. You can lose that in a heartbeat. Make sure you have an email list as well.

Speaker 1:

That is gold, and my schedule. It's manageable. I would rather post two to three times a week, every single week, than burn myself out trying to keep up with daily posting. There's no way I could do a daily YouTube video or a daily podcast. Instead, I post my podcast every single Tuesday and over on YouTube. I have a long form video every Monday and I have a plan with me every Friday, and that is my posting schedule, is my posting schedule. This is how I stay visible consistently, even when my life gets messy.

Speaker 1:

So this is what I want you to do. First of all, I want you to pick one primary platform where your audience is already spending time. Next, I want you to repurpose the content that you create for that platform across the other platforms. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Choosing a posting schedule that you can actually stick to is going to help you. Keep in mind less is more, as long as you're consistent, and then, finally, make sure every single post has a purpose that aligns with your current goals.

Speaker 1:

Now your action step for this week is to pick your primary platform and set a three-month visibility plan. Commit to a schedule you can realistically follow and brainstorm how you can repurpose your anchor content into smaller pieces. Now, if that sounds overwhelming to you, that's okay. I want you to join my workshop Plan, your Quarter, with Confidence. It's coming up on September 20th and we can plan it out together. I'll put the link in the show notes and, if this episode resonated with you, I would love for you to leave a review on your podcast platform of choice. And don't forget to hit subscribe, because next week's episode is going to flip your idea of time, freedom on its head. You won't want to miss it. Until then, remember you don't need to be everywhere, you just need to plan.
